National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Training for Floodplain Administrators

PAFPM, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), is pleased to offer NFIP Training for Floodplain Managers in conjunction with the PAFPM 2018 Annual Conference.

This training will inform and educate community representatives involved in the administration and enforcement of local land use and permitting processes aimed at flood risk reduction and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) compliance, highlighting specific topics critical to effective Program implementation. Zoning and building code officials, elected leaders, engineers, solicitors, and anyone with an interest in learning more about how to practically apply flood maps and requirements in his/her community, as well as understand the insurance implications of development decisions, should attend.

Training topics include:

  • Introduction to the NFIP 
  • Flood Insurance Reform
  • Accessing and Using Flood Hazard Data
  • Administering Floodplain Ordinances
  • Permitting Process
  • Floodplain Ordinance Enforcement
  • Pre- and Post-Disaster Considerations
  • Changing Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Flood Insurance Reports (FIS)
  • Useful Resources and the Community Rating System (CRS)

Training is free but space is limited. If interest exceeds capacity, priority will be given to local officials.
